When a turbocharger is heavily worn, or prematurely fails, contaminated oil and debris can be pushed into the intercooler, and the engine. When replacing the factory turbocharger, the intercooler should also be replaced, to ensure that none of the previous contaminants enter the engine or new turbocharger. A new oil feed line is also essential when replacing the turbocharger.
